Our core is made up of real-life veterans in offensive cybersecurity — people who work in the field professionally, have placed in team CTF competitions, and rank in the top 100 on HackTheBox. Alongside them we have newer members who are here to learn from that experience and grow into competing alongside us.
We picked up HackHub as a group since it hit 1.0 a couple days ago and are running it as a chill, low-stakes RPG: close enough to the real thing to be immersive, to role play, but not so close that it feels like clocking back into work or competing on a real CTF. It's a way to unwind together, not another shift or challenge.
The 1.0 launch brought real multiplayer — live servers, PvP hacking, raiding NPC companies, a shared persistent world. That's a good reason to team up rather than play solo, and we're looking for more people to run networks and operations with.
For you. HackHub is the starting point, not the destination. Once we've got a solid crew here, we intend to bring people into real team CTF competitions — the newer members learning from the veterans, everyone competing together. If that's something you want to work toward, get in now while the group is still small.
Fed up with Discord? So are we — and it's not just fatigue. We run on https://matrix.org and https://stoat.chat instead of Discord because we take our community's privacy seriously and hold to the hacker ethic: free software, open protocols, no corporate middleman farming your data and chat logs. Important: we kick unknown lurkers on stoat.chat. If you join and just sit there silently, you will get removed. When you come in, say hi and tell us why you're there — that's how we know to tag you correctly so you can actually see the right channels (game chat, voice, CTF stuff, etc).
